first heartbreak

One of Jacob's favorite friends from school is moving across the country on Wednesday.

These two little boys were friends from the first week of school, and it's a friendship I've actively encouraged. This is a sweet little boy with a really wonderful family. I'm sorry that they are leaving, too.

I knew he would be sad to say goodbye to his friend. Friday was the friend's last day at school, but we planned to see him a few more times before they left so I wasn't expecting such sadness when I picked Jacob up on Friday afternoon. He came out of the classroom, head hanging low, on the verge of tears. I hugged him and asked what was wrong and he fell apart. He was so sad.

It was heartbreaking for all of us.

I love that my little boy is so sweet and full of emotion. I love that he thinks his friends are special and important to him.

Seeing his little heart hurt because his friend was leaving was so sad. There's nothing that I can do to fix that kind of hurt and make it go away..

Of course he will be fine. I know that and he knows that. I also know that in the grand scheme of life, your kindergarten friend moving away is one of the minor pains you'll feel in the loss department. There will be many more over the course of a lifetime.

But Lord help us the day a girl breaks up with him.
