Photos from EA

The last day that I was in East Aurora at my parents' house, I was feeling pretty grumpy. It's always hard to leave there after a nice visit, and this was a particularly nice one. So, I grabbed my camera and went off into the woods to pout by myself. It's always amazing to me how just being alone in the quiet of the trees can calm me, all the way through. This has always worked for me.

I'm ashamed to say I don't know what plant this is...but it's near the creek and it's prettier now than when it has leaves.

Nature out it together better than I could have. Birch bark makes the red sumac look even brighter.

This does not look real. At all. Bark of a sycamore tree near the barn. We walk by the every day, but captured in a photo it is striking...

Water still flowing under the ice.

I love the way ice forms in the waterfall

The ice on the branches is beautiful.

The birds must be in their winter home.

Just something about a snowy wood pile...

Spirea seed pods, even stumped dad!

Snow on the taxus.

Goatie. Why are they all so photogenic?

I just love the colors in this old, dead tree.

I learned something new on this particular trek into the wilderness, though. Looking at the forest I grew up in was amazing through a camera lens! When you reduce your field of vision to just what you see through the lens, it's amazing how much you can appreciate a single tree, even a single part of a tree.

This walk in the woods, and these photos, serve as a great reminder to me that sometimes I just need to take a walk by myself and appreciate the little things.
