I took Jacob to a swim group on Wednesday (which he and I both really enjoyed!) and I stripped him down to just his swim diaper. He was walking around at the edge of the pool while I got ready, and I suddenly realized that he is definitely NOT a baby anymore. No more pudgy little arms and legs...these are arms and legs that are made for being busy! It seems like he stretched out overnight.
I know this transformation is supposed to make me feel sad, make me wish for the baby stage again (make me wish for another baby, even), but it just made me happy. I am so proud of the little boy that I have here with me. I LOVE that he talks to me. I LOVE that he has ideas of his own and wants to share them. I LOVE that he is still basically as easy-going as he was when he was a baby, even though he is a two-year-old!
My favorite things:
- "Mama do it?"
- "Mama come in bed?"
- "I cook!"
- the choo choo train sound
- kisses and hugs
- "Oh no! What happened?"
- "I help you?"
- hearing people's names pronounced
- asking for a certain song and singing along with me
- recognizing different kinds of animals
- that little sideways smile
- counting...counting everything, just like me
- that a mom-mom kiss can still fix anything that is wrong
- two-year old "jokes"
My not-so-favorite things:
- running away from me when it is time to change diapers
- hitting
- the word "NO!"
- constant loop of "Thomas"
- demands for Thomas when he is not on the tv
- refusal to eat foods that were perfectly acceptable an hour ago
- the whiney voice that I hear entirely too often lately
But now I must tend to this beautiful child...he is finishing off the last of my cup of coffee.
