Palm Springs in August? Why not!
It's only about 110 degrees during the day, and not much cooler at night. So, that's where we spent our anniversary trip.
And it was really a nice time.
We had dinner Thursday night at a French restaurant, had the craziest waiter I can remember ever having. He may have been a vampire. Then it was off to the casino. I made my $20 last just long enough to have my fill of gambling.
Friday morning we drove out of town a few miles and rented ATVs. Now THAT is how you spend your anniversary! I have never ridden a 4-wheeler in the sand before, and coming down the sandy face of the mountain was actually a little scary...but buzzing around at the bottom of the hill, bouncing in and out of the holes, that was so much fun. It was like watching Ben as a little kid.
After the ATV adventure, we took the aerial tram to the top of the mountain. Since we were both sweaty and tired from the ride, we didn't do any hiking up there, but simply enjoyed the views and the cool temperature.
These adventures were followed by a dip in the pool and a few drinks poolside. Nothing says vacation quite like a drink by the pool.
Dinner that night was at a pizza place. A good bottle of Cab, a cheese pizza, and a nice view of the night-time activity was a perfect fit. Much better than the gay bar we had (unknowingly) originally set out for. We still ended up at a predominantly gay bar after dinner, however. But, when the man caressed Ben's face as he walked by it did something magical to his self-esteem, so I suppose it all turned out just fine.
We slept in a bit this morning and got up to have a lovely brunch. Then we headed home to get our boy from Ken and Susan's. He had a nice time visiting with them, and we had a really nice time just being Ben and Erin again, instead of mom-mom and dada for a little while. But I really did miss him and was really excited to squeeze him when I got back.
It was a nice weekend...
